World Bank Report, Tabaku: Poverty scale is still high

TIRANA, August 4/ATSH/ Lawmaker of the Democratic Party in opposition Jorida Tabaku reacted to the World Bank report according to which, “The poverty rate is still high in Albania. 30% of Albanians live at below 5.5 USD/day and this is not just a number, but reflects the reality of many families facing poverty”.

“The poverty rate is twice the rate of other Western Balkan countries and much higher than the average of the European Union. This fact shows that we must take essential measures to transform this situation. Not only the numbers, but also the individual stories behind them, are essential to understand the challenges our citizens face”, she underlined.

“Albanians, who live on less than 5.5 US dollars a day according to purchasing power, make up a significant percentage of the population. This fact cannot be ignored and requires us to have a stronger and determined intervention to improve this situation”, wrote Tabaku.

“This is not just a government challenge, but an issue that we as a community must address together. At this point, there is no room for separate policies. We are all part of this process and can contribute to changing the situation”, concluded Tabaku. /p.s./
