U.S. administration shares same concern over tensions in Kosovo north

PRISTINA, June 29 /ATA/ – The U.S. Administration of President Joe Biden shares the same concerns with the Congress about recent tensions in the north of Kosovo, a spokesman for the National Security Council told Voice of America, affirming U.S. commitment to de-escalate tensions in Kosovo’s Serb-dominated municipalities.

“US Government officials, including the White House and the State Department, have been working closely with European Union partners to find a diplomatic solution to the recent events. They have engaged with the leaders of Serbia and Kosovo to promote the extension and renewed focus on the implementation of the normalization agreements signed at the beginning of this year”, said the spokesperson, underlining that “the normalization of relations, participation in democratic processes and respect for governance of the law will contribute to stability and security in the north of Kosovo”.

He made these comments responding to a letter that a group of Democratic and Republican Senators addressed to the U.S. President Joe Biden, calling on him to prioritize addressing the worsening security situation between Kosovo and Serbia.
