TIRANA, June 9 /ATA/ – Diplomatic sources in Brussels told Radio Free Europe on Friday that the European Union is carefully looking into a plan presented by the Albanian PM, Edi Rama on establishment of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities in the north of Kosovo.
Radio Free Europe reported that diplomatic sources in the European Union confirmed they’ve seen the plan and that the text has been drafted very seriously and carefully and it is a text of the highest quality.
According to the EU sources, “the text is being carefully examined.”
Asked if the draft will be taken into consideration to push dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, sources said the text is considered as a contribution, the same as other proposals made so far by different NGOs.
“It doesn’t matter how the EU will handle this draft, but how both parties, namely Pristina and Belgrade, would handle it. It is up to them, within the dialogue process, to advance towards the fulfillment of this obligation,” an EU diplomat told Radio Free Europe.
Prime Minister Edi Rama told a press conference a day ago that he has presented a proposal to French President Emmanuel Macron, and Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz, for the establishment of Kosovo’s Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities.
Rama said that “the document is a confidential and it does not pretend to be an ideal solution but I assure you that it is of the highest international standard and it takes into consideration all the reasons for the creation of the Association as part of organization of life for the Republic of Kosovo, addressing all the recommendations and the conclusions of Kosovo’s Constitutional Court.”
The government of Kosovo has yet to issue a statement on the draft proposed by Albania.
