NATO reinforcements arrive in Kosovo

PRISHTINA, June 5/ATA/ NATO has announced that reinforcements for KFOR have begun to arrive in Kosovo.

This comes after Serbian protesters in Zveçan injured 30 KFOR soldiers on May 29.

“NATO reinforcements have started to arrive in Kosovo following last week’s violence which injured 30 NATO_KFOR peacekeeping troops. Around 500 service members from Türkiye’s 65th mechanized infantry brigade will make up the bulk of the reinforcements” wrote the Alliance on Twitter.

In Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic, the Serbs are protesting against the entry of new Albanian mayors into municipal buildings, as well as the presence of the Kosovo Police.

As a result of the protesters’ actions, several police officers and KFOR members were injured.

Also, vehicles of the Kosovo Police and the media were burnt and damaged.

The situation in these municipalities became tense on Friday, May 26, when the newly-elected mayors were forced to enter their work offices under the assistance of the Police.

This action of Kosovo’s institutions has been criticized by the United States of America and the European Union and they demanded an immediate de-escalation of the situation in the north.

Last week, the internationals asked Kosovo to organize fresh elections in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo. /KosovaPress/p.s./
