TIRANA, June 2 /ATA/ The US Ambassador to Albania, Yuri Kim, described the release from prison of the former Minister of Interior, Saimir Tahiri, and placing him under house arrest as disappointing for the justice system.
In a post on social media, Kim said that these old ways are not appropriate for a NATO ally and an EU aspirant and they must be firmly rejected.
Kim said that the US considers corruption to be a core national security threat.
“Very disappointing to see that the old ways of impunity and privilege for some persist in justice system. These old ways are not appropriate for a NATO Ally and EU aspirant, and they must be firmly rejected. The US considers corruption to be a core national security threat. Those engaged in giving or accepting threats and inducements – for example, to help powerful friends – should understand that their actions will have consequences.
