Complex laparoscopic surgery procedure successfully performed at University Hospital Centre

TIRANA, May 7 /ATA/ – Surgeons at the General Surgery Services at the Mother Teresa University Hospital in Tirana have successfully performed a complex laparoscopic surgery procedure on a 72-year-old patient, the Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu said via a video posted on the social media on Sunday.

“The surgery procedure consisted of laparoscopic resection of the left lobe of the liver, a mini-invasive and very complex method now successfully performed by teams of surgeons at the University Hospital Centre thanks to the modern infrastructure and the state-of-the-art medical equipment available to handle and treat such rare and delicate conditions,” Health Minister said.

Manastirliu praised the team of surgeons headed by Prof. Etmont Çeliku, and included Dr. Ana Mandi, Dr. Majlinda Naço, Dr. Met Loci and Besa Seiti.

Prof. Etmont Çeliku said that “the team successfully performed laparoscopic resection of the left lobe of the liver, a procedure rarely carried by surgeons around the world. Given that such a procedure is performed for the very first time at the University Hospital Centre, I can declare that it was carried out successfully. The patient is now undergoing post-operation chemotherapy procedure and she is in a stable and good condition.”
