TIRANA, May 3 /ATA/ To mark World Press Freedom Day, Ambassador Yuri Kim hosted a group of Albanian journalists and representatives of NGOs working on media issues.
She emphasized that a free and independent press is essential for democracy and it is important for journalists to ask hard questions. She encouraged them to teach the new generation of journalists the lessons they have learned about being strong and brave.
“I hope you will never underestimate the importance of what you are doing. I hope you will continue doing what you are doing,” Ambassador Kim told the journalists. Participants discussed challenges they face including lack of access to information, job insecurity, and lack of financial transparency by public institutions and media organizations.
