TIRANA, April 27 /ATA/ Deputy Prime Minister, also Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Belinda Balluku and the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, inspected the progress of the works for the construction of the Tirana-Durra railway.
In her remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Balluku said that an electric train will operate on the Tirana-Durrës-Rinas railway line that will be environmentally friendly.
“The Tirana – Durrës railway is supported by the European Union, as an important package for efficient and effective transport. So the railway is part of a support package from the European Union for Albania, which continues with Corridor 8 and with one of the important projects going on, which is the railway from Vora to Han i Hotit,” Balluku said.
Deputy Prime Minister Balluku said that this railway is very important because it connects Tirana with Durres, but not only with the city of Durres where the most important waterfront promenade of the Balkans and the Yacht Port will be built, but it will also connect Tirana with the new port of Durrës built in Porto Romano, through the junction of Sukth.
“This is an electric train, which will move at a speed of 120 km/h from this point to Durrës, while from this point to Tirana it will move from 50-80 km/h; so it will be a moderate speed in the city.
Balluku added that the Tirana-Durrës-Rinas railway, 39 km at length, costs 70 million euros.
The Tirana-Durrës-Rinas railway, Balluku said, will be delivered in September 2024.
Balluku said that the railway is financed through a grant of 35 million euros from the European Union and a soft loan of 35 million euros, at 1% interest rate from the EBRD.
In total, the project entails the construction of 8 stations, 5 existing ones and 3 new ones.
