National Library provided with new technological equipment for books conservation

TIRANA, April 23 /ATA/ – Albania’s National Library fund has been enriched with new high-tech equipment for the books conservation under the EU-funded EU4Culture programme, the Minister of Culture Elva Margariti said on the World Book and Copyright Day on Sunday.

“The modern equipment, including servers, book and barcode scanners, laptops, tablets and specialized cleaners, disinfectants, paper deacidification machines, will further increase the library’s capabilities to preserve books and publish them online,” Margariti said.

World Book Day, also known as World Book and Copyright Day or International Day of the Book, is an annual event organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to promote reading, publishing, and copyright. The first World Book Day was celebrated on 23 April in 1995, and continues to be recognized on that day. The World Book and Copyright Day is also marked in Kosovo this year through cooperation of civil society organizations operating in the culture and associated sectors.

The World Book and Copyright day is observed on 23 April, a symbolic date in world literature, the date on which several prominent authors, William Shakespeare, Miguel de Cervantes and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died.
