PM Rama confident ruling Socialists to achieve landslide victory in mayoral elections

TIRANA, March 9 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama sounded confident that his ruling Socialist Party will achieve a landslide victory in the May 14 local elections in Albania, as the main opposition Democratic Party remains plagued by divisions and disputes over the party leadership.

In a statement to the media after the SP Chairmanship meeting on Thursday, Rama said that final preparations were being made for the local government elections and that the SP candidates for the mayoral elections will be announced on March 25.

“The candidacies will be formally announced before they officially register to run in the elections. We already know the team of the new mayors,” he said.

Asked about the election result, PM Rama said SP will achieve a landslide victory.

“I think we’ll achieve a landslide victory. I want to speak openly with you, victory when you have such adversaries is the minimum you can do,” Rama said.

These statements come at a time when the main opposition party, the Democratic Party is divided into two factions. One faction is led by former PM, Sali Berisha, while the other is led by acting party chairman, Enkelejd Alibeaj.
