TIRANA, February 9/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that although the government cannot stop the emigration trend, it has the duty to try to balance it as much as it can so that to meet the internal needs of the country.
During a meeting with the students benefiting from the new study scholarship program equal to a minimum monthly salary, Rama focused on the phenomenon of emigration, which according to him, has become a problem even in developed countries.
“When I was the same age like you, Albania was a country where you couldn’t even really decide where you would work geographically within the country, because they forced you to work where the homeland needed you. And they could appoint everyone in whatever city. There was no chance that you would decide to leave the country to seek your future somewhere abroad. We are certainly Albanians; this is our homeland, but fortunately we are no longer only citizens of this country, we are citizens of the world”, said Rama.
The prime minister added that in a world, which fortunately is open to Albanians, even Albanians have their right to make their choice.
“I do not judge those who choose differently. I too, at a certain point in my life, chose to emigrate, and then life brought me back again. On the other hand, today we live in a time when emigration has become a problem not only for us, but also for countries more developed than us. It is enough to look at neighboring Italy, how it is facing an extraordinary problem of mass emigration to Germany and also to countries in the north of Europe. This is a trend that countries find very difficult to reverse”, added Rama.
The prime minister emphasized that “history has shown that these trends take their time, but there is no force that can hardly reverse them, no matter what you do”.
“Of course, even though we are aware that we cannot stop the trend, we have the duty to make our efforts to balance it as much as we can and it is necessary for the internal needs of the country. Our country needs all services and services for qualified people in health sector. Despite the fact that the trend is such that doctors and nurses are moving to Germany and Great Britain from other European countries, we cannot agree with the idea that we may be left without doctors and nurses. Our task is to make a safe balance”, added Rama. /j.p/r.e/p.s./
