BoA keeps unchanged basic interest rate for ALL

TIRANA, Feb  1 /ATA/ The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania decided on Wednesday to keep unchanged the basic interest rate for the lek at the level of 2.75%, for the second meeting in a row.

The governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, said that, “this decision comes due to the fact that the data of the last months and mainly those related to inflation have turned out to be better than the expectations of the central bank.”

According to him, “the new information analyzed, in general, has been better than our expectations. Inflation recorded a decline in November and December, economic activity continued to grow in the second half of the year, while the effect of the monetary policy normalization is appearing more fully in the financial markets.”

The Supervisory Council of the Bank of Albania decided to keep unchanged the basic interest rate at 2.75%, the one-day loan interest rate at 3.75% and the one-day deposit interest rate at 1.75%.

Sejko said that high inflationary pressures remain the main risk to the sustainable and long-term growth of the country. Also, he emphasized that, based on the current information, the further normalization of the monetary policy stance remains a necessary measure for adhering to our price inflation objective.
