OSHEE: Power grid losses fall to 20.62% in 2022

TIRANA, Jan 28 /ATA/ – Albanian power distribution operator OSHEE continued to improve its collection rates  and reduce the power grid loses in 2022, enabling the state-run power utility to deliver on more investment projects as part of the government’s priorities to improve the reliability of electricity supply to consumers over the past years.

Data from the power distribution utility show that grid losses fell to 19.7 percent from over 45% in 2013 and down from 20.62 in the end of 2021.

Despite the costly electricity imports due to the incredibly high prices in the international markets and despite the fact that the power utility has operated in atypical circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, associated with the prolonged drought periods, OSHEE succeeded in reducing power grid losses and significantly improve the collection rates.

Official data showed that OSHEE collected only 38% of the consumed electricity in 2013.

“Around 100,000 MWh of electricity, with a cost of several million of euros, has been recovered in 2022. The grid losses are being constantly reduced thanks to intense work and rigorous controls and the current loss rate is estimated at 19.7%, down from 20.62% in 2021 and around 45% in 2013,” OSHEE said.

The government allocates more than 16 million dollars a year to compensate and help low-income families with the electricity cost.
