TIRANA, Jan 9 /ATA/ – Fierza hydropower station, the largest of the three main hydropower plants built on the Drin River cascade, will be rehabilitated through a European Union grant of EUR 8.7 million, the EU Delegation to Albania announced on Monday.
The EU Delegation said that Albania’s second largest hydropower plant will be rehabilitated in the framework of EU’s Economic and Investment Plan.
“The EU is also helping the region cope with the energy crisis through the Euro 1 billion Energy Support Package,” the Delegation said.
The EU-funded rehabilitation project is designed to extend the plant’s operation lifespan by at least 30 more years and increase its electricity output by 10%.
Rehabilitation is expected to complete by 2027.
