Lake waterway to connect Albania with Montenegro, boost tourism development perspective in Shkoder

TIRANA, Jan 5 /ATA/ –  Construction of  three permanent docks on lake Shkodra shoreline, as well as the sailing connection between Albania and Montenegro, as well as construction of new roads along the lakeside  villages will open up a completely different perspective of tourism development in this part in northwest Albania.

The Socialist Party lawmaker Benet Beci, representing Shkoder constituency, revealed the project being implemented by the Albanian Development Fund, co-funded by the European Union and the Albanian government.

“I think that like many other families in Shkodra, I also grew up with beautiful stories of boats and ships mooring at the Lake or Buna River, and being used for trade at a time when Shkodra was an important economic center for the entire region. Now that commercial sailing has been replaced by more modern means of transport, I strongly believe that the Lake and Buna should become home to tourism, sport and leisure sailing,” Beci said via the social media on Thursday.

Beci said that a floating dock in the lakeside village of Zogaj is part of three such structures being built by the Albanian Development Fund, as part of a project co-funded by the European Union and the government of Albania.

He said that the project also includes construction of a waterway to connect both sides of  the border with Montenegro, as well as new roads along the lakeside villages.
