Agritourism, latest trend for year-end holidays

TIRANA, Jan 2 /ATA/ – With the ever growing investment projects on construction of new guesthouses and mainly small farms and family-run enterprises across the country, agritourism is catching on as the latest trend for the year-end holidays in Albania, as it was the case most recently with the Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Frida Krifca, told Albanian Telegraphic Agency (ATA) that “countryside and remote rural areas are gradually becoming a most-sought weekend destinations and experience for the foreign tourists who visit Albania throughout the year.”

New agritourism enterprises are being built through financial support from the government and the IPARD programme, boasting the rural, local, ethnographic, and traditional heritage.

Agriculture Minister said that new agritourism development strategy and policy in Albania was launched in 2018 and the number of agritourism enterprises has kept growing all over the country, as a huge number of tourists are shifting their attention from traditional populated places to the rural environment.

Agritourism is increasingly becoming a brand of Albanian countryside as the future for development of the rural economy across the country. This agricultural-based operation represents a tremendous potential for employment and a golden opportunity for the agricultural products and crops grown by people involved in farming activities.

Agritourism gives the visitors a glimpse of one country’s way of life and gives them the opportunity to get involved in it, which is an experience that one wants when visiting a country. Also, it allows one to breathe fresher air, learn more about nature, flora, fauna, and gives them the opportunity to participate in farm work.
