Ibrahimaj: Inflation rate is below average of region and EU

TIRANA, December 28/ATA/ Minister of Finance and Economy Delina Ibrahimaj said today that inflation rate throughout 2022 was high, mostly influenced by the effect of prices on international markets and by the effect of Russia’s war in Ukraine.

At the press conference on economic developments throughout this year, Ibrahimaj emphasized that the average rate of inflation recorded in our country was significantly lower than in the countries of the region and those of the EU.

“In November, we had a lower average inflation rate, compared to October. It dropped to 7.9% in November, from 8.3% in October. This was the first time this year that inflation showed a downward trend,” said Ibrahimaj.

The minister said that even for the 11-month period, the inflation rate was below the EU average, which is calculated at 6.7% in Albania, while in the EU it remained at the level of 9%.

Ibrahimaj pointed out that the main impact on inflation was given by the category of food and beverages, which had an increase in prices higher than the general rate of inflation.

“Even in this indicator, Albania has performed significantly in a more positive way than the countries of the region. Inflation for this group was 14.7% in November. In North Macedonia, food and beverage inflation was 29.8%, in Serbia it was 22.5%, in Kosovo 17.9%, while in Montenegro 30.2%. Meanwhile, the EU average for food was 17.9%”, stated Ibrahimaj./p.s./
