Rama: Greek minority, an irreplaceable bridge of unbreakable link between our two countries

TIRANA, December 22 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama attended today the reception ceremony in Derviçan of Prime Minister of Greece Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

PM Rama said on this occasion that, “For us, the Greek minority is an irreplaceable bridge of the unbreakable link between our two countries”.

“I greet with deep gratitude all those citizens like you of the Republic of Albania with Greek nationality who have made a contribution not only to this community, but have also given a lot to the country. After a long period of isolation, thanks to freedom and open borders they can move freely between this side of the border and the other. I am delighted that in Albanian entrepreneurship the representatives of this community are among the most important”, said Rama.

Likewise, continued Rama, I am glad that there are artists, painters, sculptors from this community who develop their activity in Ioannina, but who are inseparable from this area.

“Among us, here we also have Pirro Dhima. They said everything about him, but still what Friedrich Nietzsche used to say, “What doesn’t kill me, makes me stronger”, seems to apply to you and I greet you”, said Rama.

Further on, Rama said that, “I had promised you that I would bring here the son of his father and here we have him”.

“It is touching even for me, who am not part of the minority, to be here today after almost 30 years since the first and last Prime Minister of Greece stopped to greet his brothers and sisters in the minority, the late father of the current Prime Minister, who has received this invitation with great pleasure, for the sake of the truth. We were supposed to come here on the day after the 6th when we had the EU and Western Balkans summit in Tirana, but the weather was bad and so we had to postpone it, but even better because I don’t think there is a better day for coming here than on Christmas Eve.”

“Thank you for this fantastic hospitality that is all for the Greek Prime Minister, but I have no reason not to take advantage of the opportunity and enjoy this view to gather in this small square and to witness the beauty of the welcome to the Prime Minister as they celebrate this important moment”, said Rama.

PM Rama took the opportunity to announce that the main square of Dropulli will be named after Konstantinos Mitsotakis, the father of the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

PM Mitsotakis is visiting today the minority areas in the south of the country at the invitation of PM Rama.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis arrived this morning in Himara, where he visited several schools and churches and greeted citizens on the city’s promenade. Also, he had meetings in Finiq, Livadhja and then he was received with a festive ceremony in Derviçani square./p.s./
