Inflation marks a decline influenced by oil price

TIRANA, December 21/ATA/ Inflation is expected to mark a turning point during the fourth quarter of 2022, to be progressively reduced during 2023 and to return to the target in the second quarter of 2024.

During the press conference held today, Governor of the Central Bank Gent Sejko said that, “This forecast is based on the expected reduction of inflation in the world environment as well as on maintenance of positive rates of economic growth”.

According to him, consumer price inflation marked a slight increase in October and a moderate reduction in November. The respective inflation rates in these two months were 8.3% and 7.9%.

Sejko said that from the point of view of the consumption basket, the progress of inflation in these two months was determined by the drop in the price of oil and transport costs, as well as by fluctuations in opposite directions in the prices of food items.

Inflation of other basket items showed less fluctuation, the Governor said, as he noted that, with the exception of the price of electricity, the inflation rate of almost all basket items remains at historically high levels and shows signs of clear influence of foreign impact.

“Economic growth is expected to remain moderate even in the first half of next year and to gradually converge towards its historical rates in the following period, offering a more balanced ratio between demand and supply in the country”, stated Sejko. /p.s./
