Nikolla: Special Unit for eliminating and preventing gender-based violence

TIRANA, Dec 10 /ATA/ Parliament Speaker, Lindita Nikolla, shared a message Saturday on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.

“Today is International Human Rights Day, the day the UN, adopted in 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Therefore, I preceded this day of reflection with a legal initiative. As a member of parliament, yesterday I submitted to the Assembly the draft law “On some additions and changes to the law no. 9669, dated 18.12.2006, “On measures against domestic violence,” as amended,” said Nikola.

“In this draft law, I propose the establishment of the institution of the Commissioner for protection from gender-based violence and domestic violence. I also proposed setting up the Special Unit for eliminating and preventing violence against women and domestic violence to better coordinate protection measures and programs,” Nikolla emphasized in the message.

“The vision of the new institutions will be Jefferson’s principle that women’s rights, as an integral part of the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, are inalienable, can neither be given, nor taken away, nor are violated. December 10 is for everyone a day of reflection and struggle with oneself,” Parliament Speaker, Lindita Nikolla, said in her message.
