PRISTINA, Dec 9 /ATA/ Parliament of Kosovo has established the ad-hoc commission for designing the draft law for the development of the transitional assessment process (vetting).
This process was welcomed by all parliamentary groups, underlining the need for consensus even during the process of crafting the draft law.
The chair of Self-Determination Movement parliamentary group Mimoza Kusari-Lila, said that vetting is an important process for justice reform.
“We welcome the general political consensus on this process. We are also aware that it is one of the most important processes which guarantees a substantive reform of the justice system in the long term,” she said.
The formation of this commission was also hailed by the head of the KDP parliamentary group, Abelard Tahiri.
“Given that this process requires constitutional amendments, this commission needs to be established by all parliamentary groups in the Assembly of Kosovo, so that we have the support of all in the long term. This is a process which will take time and may be carried over into two or three governments until it is completed… The boycott of the Serbian community representatives will make it difficult for us to get the constitutional changes through parliament,” he said.
Meanwhile, the head of the KDL parliamentary group, Arben Gashi, said that there should be a serious and comprehensive approach to vetting.
“We must start an important process such as vetting, which is of great importance, in the sense of re-evaluating judges and prosecutors. We must have a serious and comprehensive approach,” he said.
