TIRANA, December 7 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama is in Brussels today, where he participated in the discussion session together with Prime Minister of Montenegro Dritan Abazovic and President of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski about the historic EU-Western Balkans summit in Tirana.
Rama said that, “Someone asked me some time ago, what Albania would bring to Europe, the EU? It is not easy to answer this question. And I said, we can bring them some smiles. Yesterday, we brought smiles to their faces. Did you see their faces yesterday? They were better than when they gather in the boring Brussels, in their depressed, big capitals”.
“What was very beautiful was the family photo; we took it differently; we chose a different way to do this family photo and we hope that they will change it too and then there was the sun, look at the sun, what a beautiful sun. It was as if people had come out of a cave after a long time and were enjoying the sun because there was a very beautiful sun yesterday in Tirana. And these are good things that we gave to the EU yesterday,” said Rama.
But, the prime minister added, “To talk about the smile, I think it’s much deeper than what it seems.”
“First, we are very loyal. I mean, the Albanians. And we are never boring. And these two things are very necessary in the EU. We are very loyal and popular, but we are different. The EU’s popularity in Albania continues to remain very high. And it’s not because I say so. The Brussels barometer of the EU says so, the most pro-European country on the continent. That is because we have come from hell, a completely isolated hell. For us, Yugoslavia, where these guys lived here, was a kind of planet of freedom, apart from our Kosovar brothers and sisters”, said Rama.
But, continued Rama, “We naturally became so committed to the EU that nobody and nothing can change us”.
“It’s not only because we have always been devoted to empires, which is true. It’s true. Thus, we were the last to leave the Ottoman Empire and when the Turks decided to leave, we stayed. We were very loyal to Stalin, even when the Soviets said it is not a good idea to keep it there in the squares, we kept Stalin’s statue until 1990 on our main Boulevard. So, we will be here, defending the EU from the EU until the end”, said Rama. /j.p/p.s./
