Rama: UK PM, apology for remarks targeting Albanians

TIRANA, Dec 4 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Sunday that the UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, has apologized for the remarks targeting the Albanians.

Pressed by journalists in a livestreamed conversation with citizens and the media about the phone call with his British counterpart Rishi Sunak a few days ago regarding the issue of immigrants, Rama said that, “I had a conversation, not a short phone conversation with the Prime Minister of Great Britain who apologized to me for what happened and you know very well what happened because of insensitive remarks in relation to the Albanians and we discussed this issue, but not only this issue.”

“The conversation was mainly about stepping up the bilateral cooperation to tackle illegal immigration and organized crime together. For my side, I have repeated the same thing that I have said to all his predecessors in office, joining forces to crack down on trafficking networks that exploit people’s need to leave and, in turn, their connections. We know very well that emigration to the UK is linked with those that have settled there before, such as family members or relatives, neighbors and so on to exercise this activity,”, Rama said.
