Tabaku: Albanian economy cannot buffer effects of shocks

TIRANA, Nov  9 /ATA/  – By  I. Vata/ DP MP Jorida Tabaku stated that according to the outlook of economic growth published by the World Bank and the IMF, the economic growth rate will be the lowest in the region.

In her remarks in parliament, where the draft budget and the fiscal package for next year are under discussion, Tabaku said that Albanian families are coping with the crisis in their pockets.

“The crisis has hit their revenue, which have started to shrink more and more, the balance sheet of an economy which is not built on healthy principles. Today we have an economy based on the deals of the government with a handful of individuals who have strengthened oligarchic rule in Albania. An economic system that has been promoted with the extraordinary contribution of this majority through the vote of 8 customized laws, while the ninth one has just arrived. They have undermined the free market that is plunging Albanian families into poverty. The system is not centered on citizens, on businesses,  on Albanian families, it is centered on the oligarchy that uses every resource,” she said.

She highlighted some of the main problems that Albanians are facing every day, saying that their per capita income is 32% of those in European countries.

“Purchasing power compared to the countries of the region according to EUROSTAT remains lower, as the per capita income of our country is 32% of the EU income, at the bottom of the rankings in the region. The economic outlook for the region published by the World Bank and the IMF says that we are the country with the lowest economic growth in the region, although today they are proud of the inflation rate. Why does Albania have the lowest economic growth and the lowest recovery rate in the region? The answer is simple because the Albanian economy is weak, sluggish  to offset the impact of economic shock and, above all,  is badly structured to buffer this shock”, said Tabaku.
