Begaj: Albanians cannot be labeled as invaders

TIRANA, November 8/ATA/ President of the Republic Bajram Begaj reacted today to the statement of the British Home Secretary Suella Braverman using ‘invasion’ word against migrants from Albania.

Speaking to reporters in the North-eastern Albanian city of Kukës, Begaj said that, “Naturally, I disagree with the statements made by the British Home Secretary Suella Braverman. Albanians cannot be labeled as invaders due to the fact that Albanian nationals live and work everywhere in the world”.

“Albanians have been integrated in many countries of the world and in Great Britain, too. They have built their lives by paying taxes regularly and working regularly. So, it is not fair to bully them in this way,” he said.

Of course, added Begaj, “There are also the non-grata personae, persons who may be involved in illegal activities. But anyway, these are not only Albanians”.

“I have asked the government of Great Britain to make its investments in the direction of these areas where there are more emigrants, due to the fact that the problem must be identified and after the identification of the problem, the causes must be analyzed and the right ways must be found to cope with this kind of thing”, he emphasized.

“I believe that the right way and my request to them is related to the fact that the investments of the English government in this region should be made in such a way that they are tangible by the citizens and not only in the framework of counseling, but are investments that will make it possible for these citizens who flee for a better life to work and live in Kukës, to live and work in Dibra, or in Tropoja, or in Has”, said Begaj.

“Also, I have also requested from the British government to consider opening an English micro-consulate in Kukës and making it possible for the Albanian citizens to leave with temporary visas to work as seasonal workers”, said Begaj./j.p/r.e/p.s./
