Rama: We do not agree to another pay raise for lecturers

TIRANA, Nov 5 /ATA/- Prime Minister Edi Rama spoke on Saturday from Mallakastra during a meeting with the citizens regarding the protest of teachers who demand salary raise.

In his remarks, Rama said that “we will continue to support as much as we can the families, retirees whose pensions have been indexed twice. Despite the budget constraints dictated by this time like no other, we will again give pensioners another financial support at the beginning of December.”

Rama said that “we will continue to raise salaries for everyone, but we cannot accept that those whose salaries have been increased more than others, the university lecturers, want even more.” We cannot accept this. We can’t do it.

“They said we will go on a hunger strike for a salary increase. After that, they said we want the president to guarantee our lives. Then they asked the international community to protect them from intimidation, and then in the end, they backed down. How can these be university lecturers?! They are not the majority, but how can they be university lecturers?! What can they teach the new generation? However, once again we will overcome all this. We have overcome the earthquake, the pandemic. This is the worst of the three, but we’ll get over that too. Undoubtedly, that we will take Albania to the top that we have decided to take it, and unquestionably that we will also continue to support Mallakastra as part of this drive,” concluded Rama.
