TIRANA, Nov 3 /ATA/ The Rector of the Albanological Studies Academy, prof. dr. Luan Përzhita hosted the vice-rector of the University of Sofia “St. Kliment Ohridski”, prof. Georgi Valchev and the dean of the Faculty of Slavic Studies, prof. Gergana Dacheva.
This meeting will speed up the opening of a new university study program at the master’s level first and then at the PhD level, for Balkanology (with subjects covering history, linguistics, archaeology, anthropology, culture and art) with lecturers from both institutions, but also from other universities of Albania. Such a structure would be a pioneering institution for Albania.
“For us, this cooperation is extremely important. We have monumental evidence that the Bulgarian civilization has left throughout history. But we also have an Albanian community in Bulgaria,” said rector Perzhita, who proposed more cooperation, exchanges and interpretation, as well as joint expeditions of professors from the two institutions.
Vice-rector Valchev said that for the University of Sofia, this is the perfect timing, because it coincides with the university reform that is being carried out in the country and “St. Kliment Ohridski” is getting financial support to improve and internationalize scientific research.
After the meeting, the guests from Sofia toured the Archaeological Museum in the premises of the Academy of Albanian Studies.
Last April, the rector of the Academy of Albanological Studies, prof. dr. Luan Perzhita, signed the memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Balkan Studies and the Center for Tracology, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
