TIRANA, Oct 24 /ATA/ The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, has announced the decision to organize the EU-Western Balkans summit on December 6, in Tirana.
While welcoming this decision, Prime Minister Edi Rama said that “today Tirana is no longer what it was a few years ago.”
“I don’t believe that anyone could have imagined until a few years ago that all EU leaders would land in Tirana, for a job that has always been done in Brussels. But today Tirana is no longer what it was until a few years ago, it is the capital of a respected country in international politics, as well as a new, attractive European city for its impressive development,” he said.
Rama emphasized that “in the history of Albania’s international relations, this is a landmark event.”
“For Tirana, this is the biggest international event in its history. For 2022, which is coming to a close, this event is the icing on the cake after the highlight of the UEFA Conference League Final at the home of the red and black team. While for me and the Albanian government, hosting in Tirana the summit of the European Union and the Western Balkans leaders is the most beautiful result of the effort to affirm Albania as a respected voice and dignified member of the international community,” the Prime Minister said. /m.m/j.p/sm/
