PES refuses participation of Meta in congress

TIRANA, Oct 6 /ATA/ The European Socialist Parties (PES) have excluded the head of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, from the proceedings of their Congress that will take place in Berlin on October 14-15.

According to Report TV, in an e-mail that PES sent to Ilir Meta, it is clear that the reason for this difficult decision is precisely his political alliance with Berisha.

“Dear Ilir! Thank you for your interest in the PES Congress, which will take place in Berlin on October 14-15. However, as a result of your recent decision and political alliance, we must ask that you do not attend the Congress. The PES Congress welcomes representatives from progressive parties to share their vision for European policies that are based on our core values, democracy, freedom, equality, peace and justice. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please know that that we did not take this decision lightly,” the e-mail published by Report TV says.

As reported, this refusal came only 2 days after Ilir Meta formalized his coalition with Sali Berisha to run in the 2023 local elections with a joint candidate.
Meanwhile, the Freedom Party Secretary General, Tedi Blushi, called it “lie” and “fake news.”
