MoJ: No draft law on amnesty in progress

TIRANA, Sept 24 /ATA/ – By I.Vata/ The Ministry of Justice reacted on Saturday amid a debate in the media about a possible amnesty.

In its reaction, the Ministry of Justice clarified that so far there is no draft, written or in process of consultation, for a bill on a possible amnesty.

“Given the public interest of family members and persons in conflict with the law for an amnesty in the penitentiary system of Albania, the Ministry of Justice clarifies: So far there is no draft, written or in consultation, for a bill on an amnesty. There is no working group in the Ministry of Justice, or in the General Directorate of Penitentiary System established for this purpose,” same sources say.

The Ministry of Justice asks the media to quote official announcements, as fake news lead to confusion.

“The Ministry of Justice asks the media to quote information of official sources because misleading news cause indignation, exasperation and mistrust among family members, persons in conflict with the law and the public, not only towards public institutions, but even towards the media themselves,” the Ministry of Justice says.
