TIRANA, Sept 21 /ATA/ Parliament of Albania played host on Wednesday to the event “Stand with Ukraine.”
This event was organized as part of the 17th edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival.
In addition to the Members of Parliament and guests, in attendance were the ambassador of Ukraine, Volodymyr Shukrov, and the ambassador of Canada, Elissa Golberg.
The participants were overcome with emotions during the screening of the documentary “Mariupol, the unlost hope,” which featured, among other things, painful and touching testimonies of Ukrainian women about the tragedy that is happening in Ukraine after the military aggression of Russia.
In her remarks at this event, Parliament Speaker, Lindita Nikolla, after thanking Çashku, prof. Theodore S. Orlin, ambassador of Ukraine, Volodymyr Shukrov, and ambassador of Canada, Elissa Golberg, for their participation and contribution to this meeting and the opportunity to discuss the just war of Ukraine, underlined that “the war in Ukraine is not only a threat for Ukraine, its people and its economy.”
“This war is a threat to mankind. War in Ukraine is an alarm bell for everyone because Russia’s aggression has whipped up the enthusiasm of the enemies of peace, which can be individuals, terrorist groups, governments, states or organizations. It is no coincidence that in parallel to the war in Ukraine, terrorist actions and attacks, be them physical or virtual, have increased in the region and beyond. Cyber terrorism is threatening mankind along with other forms of terrorism and wars,” Nikolla said.
“I am proud that the Parliament of Albania was the first to host the premiere of this documentary. The Assembly of Albania was among the first parliaments to pass the resolution condemning Russia’s aggression and expressing support for the people of Ukraine.
President Zelenski addressed the Albanian Parliament in a special session. Albania was among the first to support the stand of NATO and the sanctions of the United States and the European Union. We were part of the Donors Conference.
“Not only as Speaker of Parliament, but also as a woman and as a mother, I use the opportunity to express solidarity with the people, women and girls of Ukraine and I wish that the war will be won as soon as possible, its pain will be overcome and the people of Ukraine will return to normality and family joys,” she concluded.
