TIRANA, Sept 17 /ATA/- By Maela Marini/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated on Saturday that Albania has successfully withstood cyberattacks causing the aggression to miss its target, which was taking the country’s digital systems back to year “0.”
Prime Minister Rama on Saturday had a communication on social media with citizens as well as with journalists to talk about various topics of current affairs.
Focusing on the recent cyberattacks against our country, Rama informed that “this is a big emerging concern, although we have been the target of cyberattacks for many years now, but of low degree in terms of skill and speed of penetration.”
“Massive outpourings of attacks on the institution that coordinates the entire digital revolution project have been unsuccessful. This is nothing but a war aggression in the world of the Internet and all digital systems. A ruthless aggression that had a very clear goal, the loss of all data and the irreversible destruction of all systems, leaving a scorched earth behind,” said Rama.
The Prime Minister added that “this is the conclusion of the experts who have supported us in this joint effort and possess the specialized knowhow today, the experts of Microsoft, their super team which has been established to address cyber threats and the experts of the US.”
Rama said that the attack has not reached its goal and the damage is much lighter than the degree of its aggressiveness.
“Eventually the systems have been restored, the data accessed are completely irrelevant in terms of their sensitivity. Some of them have been published, it is about government decrees, documents that circulate in internal network and can be accessed upon a simple request. They are neither secret nor confidential documents,” said the Prime Minister.
He added that the aim was to sow panic, misinformation and conspiracy theories that lead the public into confusion.
“Definitely this war is in full swing as we are coping with possible attacks on the one hand and the necessity to step up cyber security on the other,” he said.
“In the aftermath of the attack for the first time there is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding that stand in the way of the truth. But we have successfully withstood the attack and if you check the report issued by the highest international expertise on the frontline of the cyber war, Microsoft and specialized agencies of the USA, the aggression has failed. The attack did not achieve its goals. It was of a nature that could have wiped everything and could have taken us back to the year ‘0’ of our digital systems. It didn’t happen,” said Rama.
The Prime Minister added that “our systems are up and running again and this is a success.”
“Our systems have resisted and now we plan to accelerate our cyber security center project. We have started it, but it requires intensive financing, so we extended it in time and now we have shortened the financing time,” added Rama.
