TIRANA, September 6 /ATA/ The MPs of the Democratic Party Dhurata Çupi and Dashnor Sula submitted today to the Constitutional Court the request of the DP Parliamentary group for the abolition of the boards for setting prices.
During a briefing, MP Dhurata Çupi stated that the board set up to keep the price under control quickly turned into a club of oligarchs.
“Today, in the name of the interest of the citizens, in the name of the public interest, 29 MPs of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party have addressed the Constitutional Court with a request for the abolition of the Price Setting Boards. It is already a fact that for months Albanian citizens are faced with price abuses. Albania is one of the 10 countries in the world with the highest price of oil, gas and gasoline. Although the poorest in Europe and the Region, Albanians have faced the abusive prices of oil, gas and gasoline. It is a fact that the Board set up to keep the price under control quickly turned into the Oligarchs’ Club, where the oil oligarchs on the Board set the price as well. It is a fact that the Board, with its activity, is undermining competition in the market, which brings down the price, as well as economic freedom, which protects the rights of consumers”, she said.
Following this, Çupi added that with the approval of these two laws, the Government, instead of doing what every government in the world has done, to protect the interests of citizens, the rights of consumers, actually formalized the Club of Oligarchs and gave them complete freedom to agree with each other to set the price of oil, gas and gasoline. “Every citizen has seen how the Club of Oligarchs constantly mocks, that every time the citizens react, it lowers the price by 2 lekë, and the next day increases it by 12 lekë,” she said.
According to Çupi, the establishment of the board is harming the interest of the citizens. “The establishment of the Board is harming the interest of the citizens. The laws contradict the Constitution, infringe economic freedom, infringe competition in the market, deepen the poverty of the citizens, and steal even more from the citizens.
“For this reason, the Parliamentary group of the Democratic Party asks the Constitutional Court to repeal these laws, to protect the public interest, to protect the interests of citizens. We are confident that the Constitutional Court will be subject only to the Constitution, and will not be under the influence of the Club of Oligarchs, or the Government, which for a long time does not serve the citizens, but the interest of a handful of oligarchs. I want to confirm that we will stand by the citizens, in defense of their interest. Reducing the price of oil, gasoline and gas is in the interest of the citizens and the Government should not turn a blind eye to abuses. But unfortunately, today the Albanians are governed by a Prime Minister, whose last concern is the troubles of the citizens. “For 9 years now, Edi Rama has clearly confirmed that his only interest is to serve a group of people, at the expense of 3 million Albanians,” she said./p.s./
