TIRANA, August 26/ATA/- Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel stated today in Tirana that the membership of the Western Balkans countries cannot be held hostage for reasons of national policies.
During the joint press conference with PM Rama, Bettel said that the EU membership is not an economic and political project, but a peace project.
Regarding the opening of EU membership negotiations for Albania, the prime minister of Luxembourg assessed that, “The path you have taken since that time is extraordinary, but there is still potential for our relations”
“I say, countries cannot be held hostage for reasons of national policies, this is the first thing. We cannot decide on the future of a country for national reasons”, he underlined
He recalled that in 1957, the Treaty of Rome was immediately after the Second World War, where France and Germany were enemies and from that time we managed to have peace in the European territory.
At the media conference, Bettel also focused on cooperation between the two countries in several fields, such as economy, culture and tourism./p.s./
