PRISHTINA, Aug 22 /ATA/- The U.S. special envoy Gabriel Escobar and European Union’s Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue and other Western Balkan regional issues, Miroslav Lajcak, will visit Prishtina and Belgrade this week, Radio Free Europe informed Monday citing diplomatic sources in Brussels.
According to Radio Free Europe, Escobar and Lajcak will both visit Prishtina on Tuesday.
According to the diplomatic sources, the two envoys will seek to convince both parties to reach a deal on overcoming the recent tensions in Kosovo’s north, as well as the reciprocity measures related to Serbian documents and license plates.
No accord was found on these issues at the most recent meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Vucic last week in Brussels.
However, EU sources said that intense work will continue to find a solution and the dialogue is not considered complete until a solution has yet to be found.
Diplomats in Brussels acknowledge that there is room for increased tensions and are urging both sides to show restraint, seek solutions and avoid conduct that could further escalate the situation.
The fact that Escobar and Lajcak are expected to visit Belgrade and Prishtina together is seen as evidence that the EU and the U.S. are working together towards a solution to the issues of Serbian license plates and documents.
