DP: Government, no support package for citizens

TIRANA, August 6/ATA/ The member of the National Council of the Democratic Party in opposition Dorian Teliti stated today that, “Since July 1, there is no more any support package. The government has abandoned everyone: citizens in need, pensioners and businesses. Therefore, the Democratic Party demands an immediate intervention in the 2022 budget”.

During a briefing, Teliti said that, “The government should cut all non-essential operating expenses. It should suspend all public procurement procedures that have nothing to do with the growth of the economy & well-being, but only to fill the pockets of a handful of people. It should also stop budget payments to all corrupt Public Private Partnerships on which during the current year there will be paid about 120 million Euros”.

“Every Lek saved from the above measures and every additional Lek that has come to the state coffers as a result of the increase in prices, should be returned to the citizens and businesses through support packages,” said Teliti.

Teliti brought to attention the fact that only during the period January-June 2022, there were collected 22.7 billion Lekë more from the VAT compared to January-June 2021.

“The money is found in the budget, but the political will of the government needs to be materialized into a second serious anti-crisis package, instead of the alms of the first package,” Teliti underlined.

Teliti said that, “Prices continue to rise, those who receive food on the list are increasing every day, living is becoming more and more unaffordable. According to the latest UN report, 1 in 3 Albanians live under food insecurity. A few months ago, the government launched a 3-month aid package. Unfortunately, it was the lowest in the region and nothing more than alms. The April-May-June package did not respond at all to the need to fight the effects of the crisis,” he added./k.s/p.s./
