TIRANA, July 11 /ATA/ The works for reconstruction and expansion of the Infectious Diseases Hospital capacities at QSUT (Tirana University Hospital Centre) are in full swing.
Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, saw first-hand the works in this hospital, from where she announced that the new hospital will be completed by summer.
“I am satisfied that now, as we promised, the works in this hospital will be completed by July. And this is our goal, that by the end of July, from the point of view of infrastructure reconstruction, the new hospital of infectious diseases at the “Mother Teresa” University Hospital Center will be delivered. Meanwhile, this hospital will be set to operation in August, when this new service will open,” said Manastirliu.
Speaking about the new investment, Manastirliu said that in order to respond to emergencies, this hospital could operate as a semi-intensive therapy one.
“As this structure is already designed, more than 60% of rooms will have negative pressure. This helps a lot in terms of treating infectious diseases. The capacities of intensive care unit will increase twofold. While almost all the rooms are equipped with medical gas alert system to operate as a semi-intensive therapy hospital at a certain point in time,” said Manastirliu.
Speaking about the spike in the number of infections, Manastirliu, referring to the alert issued by the World Health Organization, said that we must be on standby to cope with a new wave of infections.
The investment worth 5.6 million euros consists in the reconstruction and expansion of the capacities of the Infectious Disease Hospital. This investment comes as part of strengthening the capacities in the hospital system and especially the 2021-2022 Action Plan for the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
