Internationalization of higher education, Rama with rectors: 175 agreements on joint programs

TIRANA, July 9 /ATA/ The next meeting of the Joint Committee on Higher Education Policies, which was attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, touched on the so far progress of the internationalization process, with special focus on the implementation of 175 new agreements on joint programs with prestigious universities as well as the use of new opportunities under these agreements.

This meeting comes after the visit that Prime Minister Edi Rama made a few days ago in the Netherlands where he discussed with Prime Minister Rutte another point of the joint decision-making program built on the idea of the new European political community, which is increasing access of our universities to the new European higher education networking.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Rama said that, “it is very positive that the effort to internationalize universities is moving at an accelerated pace compared to before. The track record of 175 agreements signed for joint programs with other universities outside Albania, 41 agreements in the process, joint and dual programs approved, 17 programs in English, are really encouraging. Undoubtedly, the objective is much more ambitious than that.”

“One of these points on which I think we will insist, of course, in the end it will be up to the joint decision-making with the Dutch side, but I am convinced of this and they are very willing to explore this path is the access of universities to the new network of European higher education established in recent years and that, you know better than I, has had a very strong impact and is giving very significant results because it gives opportunities to universities, offering extra financial support to create new synergies with each other and enter into academic conglomerates, which are of extraordinary benefit for lecturers, for students, for the integration of all programs or to create complementary situations between universities,” Rama emphasized.

“Here, at this point, I would like you to contribute with an analysis, some options and suggestions on this approach,” said Rama.
