Vegetable growing in greenhouses on increase

TIRANA, June 27 /ATA/ Greenhouse production has increased by about 3% during this year, while greenhouse vegetable crops represent over 22% of domestic agricultural production in total.

Agricultural subsidy schemes and the IPARD program are a testimony to the growth and development of agriculture, in the support they address to farmers and enterprises operating in this sector.

With the support of ARDA, 78 new modern high-tech solar greenhouses have been built in 12 municipalities of the country, some of which have been transformed into larger greenhouse complexes compared to the countries of the region, specifically for the growing of vegetable seedlings, or even the production of fresh vegetables, such as Fier, Lushnjë and Divjakë.

With ARDA support through the IPARD Program, farmers have also been supported to invest in the construction of automated solar greenhouses, which has boosted employment, increased export production and increased incomes for rural households.

Financial support and fiscal incentives are encouraging farmers to invest in setting up new agricultural greenhouses that provide all year production which according to official statistics increases every year by 100 ha of greenhouse areas in our country.
According to MARD, over 52% of vegetable production in greenhouses belongs to Fier Region. Among the best performing is the tomato that accounts for 51.9% of the total production in greenhouses.
