PM Rama: EU needs Balkans as much Balkans needs EU

TIRANA, June 25 /ATA/ – Prime Minister Edi Rama stated at a Forum in Austria on Saturday that the European Union needs the Western Balkan countries as much as the Western Balkans need EU today.

Addressing the Wachau European Forum  entitled “Safeguarding Europe’s future and EU Enlargement,” PM Rama said that the event was the perfect gathering to discuss Europe and the Western Balkans,  expressing deep sorrow for the EU.

“I feel sorry for the EU. I really feel sorry for it. Many commented on my remarks at the press conference and on what we expressed after walking the Summit very angrily. It could be so, but it has nothing to do with us, but it has to do with the EU,” PM Rama said.

“After staying four hours together with the leaders of all these nice countries, we saw, listened to them and felt their incompetence in the face of a surreal situation, with a NATO member, namely Bulgaria, taking hostage two other NATO countries, Albania and North Macedonia right at the peak of an ongoing war on borders of Europe right under the watch of 26 other countries that can do nothing at all,” PM Rama stated.

The government head expressed gratitude to Austria for unwavering support for Albania’s bid to join the EU.
