TIRANA, June 16 /ATA/ President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, attended on Thursday the Global Forum in Baku “Global Resistance, Global Cooperation.”
“The repercussions of the war on Ukraine have disrupted food supply chain all over the world, because Ukraine and Russia are two of the ‘bread baskets’ that supply the world with 30% of wheat and 20% of maize,” Meta said in a posting on his social media account.
Meta added that, at the 9th Global Forum in Baku, he drew attention to soaring food prices.
“By 2023 we will really face a problem of food availability, given that about 300 million people worldwide are threatened by food insecurity, according to the World Food Program,” said Meta.
“All Black Sea ports must be operational, otherwise we will end up grappling with food scarcity which would result in hunger, destabilization and mass migration everywhere,” Meta said.
“Hundreds of millions of people around the world depend on food supplies coming through these ports,” Meta added.
“World leaders must do everything in their capacity to bring stability to markets before things get worse, because in the long run, global food prices will rise further as a result of Russia’s role as a major producer of fertilizers needed for the crops, ” said Meta.
