TIRANA, May 27 /ATA/ Albania is the only country in the Balkans that has incorporated gender budgeting in the public financial management cycle and the results so far are gratifying.
To discuss this topic, Minister of Finance and Economy, Delina Ibrahimaj, held a meeting on Friday with the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, Asa Regner, who is on an official visit to Albania.
Minister Ibrahimaj informed that about 9% of total public spending in 2022 is designated for promotion of gender-based public policies.
According to her, all budget programs will incorporate at least one key performance indicator based on gender, as part of the Medium Term Budget Program document 2023-2025.
For her part, Regner praised Albania’s achievements in the field of gender equality, emphasizing the importance of sustaining the momentum in the program for protection and empowerment of women, especially in rural areas.
“MoFE remains committed to paying increased attention to the promotion of these policies in the context of public finances of central and local government,” Minister of Finance and Economy said. /j.p/sm/
