TIRANA, May 11/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that, “The Socialist Party is the only political party in this country which has never put and will never ever put any pressure on justice.”
In a press conference from the headquarters of the SP, together with Minister of Justice Ulsi Manja, Rama said that, “We are here today following a discussion that has been aroused because of my stance in the National Assembly of the SP regarding the need for SPAK to comprehensively investigate the corruption of corrupted politicians, judges and prosecutors who as such have been expelled from the vetting process”.
“Some have considered my stance as a pressure on justice; others fear of losing power; while others have commented on it as an attempt to hide the government’s failures. I believe that the most important thing is to hold this discussion because SPAK will soon be 3 years old and in a few weeks the vetting will be 5 years old “, said Rama.
“What should we say then about the statements of the EU or US representatives, who openly demand by name the punishment of corrupted politicians or judges? Is this pressure on justice? According to me, no. In my opinion, this is a legitimate request implying a greater demand from justice, while there is made the biggest investment in the history of this country in justice in the political aspect, whether from the ruling party, SP, or from friends and international partners”, added Rama.
What pressure is it to seek the investigation of a former president and former prime minister declared “non grata” by the US with the most serious possible allegations directly related to the activity of the institutions of this country, and to do so almost a year after the declaration “non grata” was made after the US Secretary of State publicly demanded in a statement that the institutions of this country should do their job”, he continued.
The prime minister stressed that, “We did not ask for a sentence, but an investigation”.
“We do not decide the sentence, but demand investigation which is an issue that is rather important for the whole of Albania and not a matter of one person, so, it is a necessity. There is no point in discussion of our effort to clarify the truth to the end by a just and independent judiciary. If it was not so, former ministers, former mayors, former MPs associated with this party that is in power would not be behind bars today”, said Rama./p.s./
