TIRANA, May 6/ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama stated today that, “It is high time for commercial second-tier banks to join the Digital Revolution, to relieve customers and entrepreneurship from the obstacles and delays of old-fashioned services, just as we did with public services and documents.”
PM Rama, Governor of the Bank of Albania Genc Sejko and Minister of Finance and Economy Delina Ibrahimaj presented today the initiative of the Digital Revolution for second-tier banks so that to relieve customers and entrepreneurship from obstacles and delays in services.
Addressing the representatives of the second-tier banks, Rama said that, “You have to join the digital revolution and become an example by doing your part. It is shocking that today’s panorama of the level of technology of banks is what it is”, said Rama.
“We must simplify the procedures, reduce the accompanying documents and do our best to make the life of citizens and businesses in relation to banks as much easier as possible,” Rama said.
Rama stressed that, “The latest report of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development ranked Albania the first in the region and the 17th in the list of countries covered by the EBRD, a very significant position as a result of an extremely voluminous and intensive work that we have done for years to transform our entire system of government through digitalization and to transform the public services themselves thanks to digitalization”.
Meanwhile, Rama said that, “Unfortunately, in the same report, Albania receives a very low rating for Ecommerce and in fact when it comes the question to the banks we are the last in the region for e-banking”.
There are queues at the bank doors in the morning with people being guided by a guard out there.
Rama said that, “Every month, and exactly on the 14th, many representatives of companies go to the banks to pay VAT and so on”.
“I believe that there is no need for a citizen who has a card to go to the bank to pay for a public service. He can pay through the e-Albania and this can be confirmed in real time; it is fully technically feasible and this is a transformation not to be discussed, but to be done”, he said./p.s./
