An authentic Albanian piece at Venice Biennale

TIRANA, April 21 /ATA/ The Albanian pavilion, which showcases the art of Lumturi Blloshmi, curated by Adela Demetja, opened on Thursday at Arsenale in Venice International Biennale.

In this 59th edition, Albanian pavilion stages for the first time a personal exhibition by a female artist, who has passed away.

The opening ceremony was greeted by Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, who, among other things, said that
“Lumturie Blloshmi is a symbol of transcendence, of perseverance to surmount any kind of difficulty in life.

“Lumturi Blloshmi is a symbol of her generation, which was faced with a tough period for art and then with the change in political systems, compelling them to make up for the time lost under dictatorship,” said the minister.

Margariti described the exhibition as an authentic Albanian piece, which is presented to the world as a personal story, but also as a representative of a generation of artists who broke down the barriers of the regime to start from scratch whenever the opportunity presented itself.

“I am glad that this year’s biennale is dedicated to a mostly female team, anticipated by Lumja, Adela and the staff that made possible the setup of this pavilion, in a format which reveals and leaves us with a taste of mystery and desire to explore an artist’s world; which fits best with the general concept of this edition, which is curated by Cecilia Alemani, the first Italian woman in this important position, ” said Margariti.

For her part, the curator Adela Demetja said that it is never too late to do the right thing, which means promoting the work of Lumturi Blloshmi.

“Lumturie has left behind a very rich archive, which spans over a long period of time. She has left works, manuscripts, letters, through which we understand her world and the context she lived in,” said Demetja.

In attendance of the opening ceremony were many art-loving artists from Albania and Kosovo and the Albanian pavilion was visited by world art and culture personalities.
Artist Blloshmi passed away in 2020 due to COVID-19.
