TIRANA, March 21 /ATA/ – By I. Vata/ The Democratic Party head, Lulzim Basha, has offered his resignation on Monday.
Basha told a press conference that April 25 was a serious blow for the Democrats and Albanians alike, the election massacre reversed the change on April 25. The hope for resurgence has unfortunately been hit by subsequent shocks. I personally invested everything to come up with a solution that would serve both the Democratic Party and transparency. But time will prove who was right and who was wrong. Unfortunately, my attempt to keep the DP united stalled, he said.
The crisis we have been experiencing for years now is exacerbated by the lack of responsible governance and accountability. April 25 was a serious blow to the Democrats, the democracy and the hopes of Albanians for change, after 8 years of unfulfilled promises, corruption and mockery of the pain and frustration of the people. Because only a government that comes as the expression of free will can have a grasp of their problems and in turn offer real solutions for the people, he said.
Such a government, with concrete program and offer was thwarted by the electoral massacre that stopped change on April 25th.
The hope of resurgence through a strong opposition has unfortunately suffered subsequent blows for nearly a year now. Our efforts to offer Albanians such opposition, through reports and crackdown on government corruption at the investigation commissions for corruption and the April 25 elections, have been overlapped by an internal war.
I personally invested everything to come up with a remedy that would serve both the Democratic Party and transparency. Today I do not want to dwell on what happened and how it happened, who was right and who was wrong, I am convinced that the time will prove this.
Unfortunately, my attempt to keep the DP united failed. Many Democrats and me faced a campaign of unprincipled and untrue attacks that sowed division, causing the Democratic Party to plunge into a deep crisis.
For this reason, and to help the Democratic Party and Democrats put aside unprincipled divisions, aware of the challenge I took on for what I have called my most difficult political decision, I have decided to take a step back by resigning as the DP chairman, determined to help the resurgence and unification of the Democrats and the Democratic Party as the only hope for the Albanians.
This is not a resignation to suit personal convenience, but one more push to fight our battle for a forward-looking DP together and cleared from all the lies that what has happened during these 6 months was intended to hold on to the post of the party head.
So today I want to tell everyone, who has believed and believes that the DP must look to the future, that I am and will be fully committed to stand alongside you, I will be your voice, I will never abandon your sacrifice, I will never get tired of expressing my gratitude for your sacrifices, hard work and contribution, and I will vehemently do everything so that they do not go to waste, but give strength to our vision for a Democratic Party that chooses the future and leads the way of Albanians towards it.
This means that I will continue to work tirelessly, devoting myself wholeheartedly to this resurgence of the Democratic Party around our values, principles and standards as Democrats.
I am convinced of the need to start as soon as possible a process of awareness, analysis, principled unification and renewal, and then an open, transparent, free and fair electoral process, from the grass-root to the center of all DP leadership.
