Basha: Full, unconditional support for Ukraine

TIRANA, March 7 /ATA/ – The Democratic Party leader Lulzim Basha stated Monday that Albania fully and unconditionally supports the people of Ukraine.

“Today we have come together in a rare event, perhaps unique to the Albanian Parliament, to voice full and unconditional support to the people of Ukraine in the face of the most unprecedented aggression since the end of World War II,” DP leader said in his remarks at parliament’s plenary session.

“The Democratic Party, the Albanian opposition and all our fellow citizens, regardless of their political affiliations, wish that the people of Ukraine continue to face heroically and courageously the Russian aggressors and to see this act of support from the Albanian parliament as a expression of the will of the entire Albanian nation, because, as I said, only hours after the aggression on February 24, we Albanians are the last nation before your nation to have been through the pain and suffering, destruction and death, atrocities, and genocide committed by Slobodan Milosevic’s war machine against our compatriots in Kosovo,” Basha said.

“It is our duty to ask the Albanian authorities to mobilize everything in this situation to serve peace and security in the region by approving the draft resolution submitted to the Foreign Affairs Committee following Russia’s aggression on Ukraine. Emphasizing the need to strengthen security in the region and especially in Kosovo, appreciating the fact that we are temporary members of the Security Council, to ask the government to use all available means and opportunities for Kosovo to join the organizations as soon as possible,” he said.
