TIRANA, Feb 24 /ATA/ The Secretary General of the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Armand Skapi, stated on Thursday that according to the data obtained by this ministry, there are currently 67 Albanians in Ukraine.
In a televised interview, Skapi said that “so far we have no information that there are Albanians among the victims.”
“We have data on 67 Albanians who are currently in Ukraine. We have been announcing for days now that if an evacuation is needed due to the situation, they should leave Ukraine immediately. Our embassies in Poland and Romania are at their service for every need. Certainly today the situation has become more difficult, after Ukrainian airspace was closed to civilian flights, due to Russian airstrikes,” he said.
Under these conditions, Skapi said that “Albanian citizens have been instructed to follow the land route in the direction of Poland or Romania”.
“4 Albanians who asked for our help were instructed to follow this communication route. In the territory of Ukraine, 11 Albanians have been on duty as part of the OSCE monitoring missions. Some of them have already been evacuated and the rest are in the process of evacuation. So far the evacuation is safe, if they follow the land line. “We cannot force the citizens to leave, but we create all the necessary space to assist them if they want to be evacuated,” he said.
Speaking about the situation, Skapi said that “the MEFA has condemned the aggression that Russia committed against Ukraine, a sovereign, independent country, a member of the UN and described this aggression as a very dangerous for peace and security not only in region, but also beyond. ”
