Kumbaro: Spot checks to prevent abusive prices on beaches

TIRANA, Feb 17 /ATA/ Minister of Tourism and Environment, Mirela Kumbaro, announced on Thursday that throughout summer spot checks will be conducted to prevent abusive prices on the beaches.

In her speech on the draft law on the adherence of the Republic of Albania to the “Framework Convention on Tourism Ethics and its optional protocol,” Minister Kumbaro stressed that “despite the management by private entities, the beaches are public and accessible to citizens.”

“It unacceptable in principle that the prices of tents and private sunbeds are mindboggling on certain beaches which although temporarily administered by private entities, are and remain public property,” said Minister Kumbaro.

Kumbaro also gave some important messages, at a time when the preparations for the summer season are in progress and applications for the management of beach parcels by private entities are currently open.

“While I invite you to vote this Convention on Tourism Ethics, I cannot but emphasize that this year beach bars will not be set up without permit. Also, contracts will not be concluded unless the presence of lifeguards is ensured, nor will a contract be concluded if the entity is in arrears with taxes. We will be on full alert to prevent abuses in the territory, in services and in prices,” said Kumbaro.

Minister of Tourism outlined the plan to shift towards year-round tourism and the vision about quality tourism instead of mass tourism.
