Rama over “5 Maji” houses: No one is evicted without a solution

TIRANA, Feb 7 /ATA/ Prime Minister Edi Rama touched on the demolition of some buildings in Tirana’s “5 Maji” neighborhood. Rama has responded to some commentators regarding the dire situation in this neighborhood after the demolition of the buildings, which are affected by the reconstruction.

Rama said that each resident has received what belongs to him by law and that no one has been evicted without a solution beforehand.

One of the “5 Maji ” residents writes “why don’t you mention in the consultation whether you should have forcibly evicted the residents of 5 Maji ?! It was really an unlawful operation, not to mention the constant persecution of street vendors when the municipal police dismantled all the stalls.”

Prime Minister Rama responds to the resident that definitely whoever does not leave willingly, will be forcibly evicted, because they have received the share as all the inhabitants of “5 Maji,” while street vendors are not allowed to overreach themselves.

Another resident says that I invite you to remedy the situation of “5 Maji.” It is not true that residents are being treated as they deserve! They are being forcibly evicted from their homes without signing any contract. They refuse to sign the contract because it is unilateral, null and void and in turn to the detriment of the citizens. Please remedy the issue on a case-by-case basis. Each case should be judged on its own merits. Stop all this, it’s really awful. We are not in breach of law at all.”

PM states that “no one is evicted without a solution, compensation or rent bonus and social housing compensation, just as we did with those affected by the earthquake. Refusal does not hinder the development process and is certainly associated with eviction, as long as everyone is offered a solution and no one is left in the open.”

On January 19, the National Inspectorate of Territorial Protection started the action for the demolition of houses in the Maji 5 neighborhood in Tirana, paving the way for the reconstruction process. In total, 430 families are affected by the reconstruction project.
